Hellebores Hybrids - We are hoping to

Hellebore ‘Brandywine’™ are seedlings from stock
plants grown here at Brandywine Cottage.
They come in a wide array of colors and
flower forms, including singles, doubles,
and semi-doubles. They are unblossomed,
so that we cannot tell the color. Stock plants
come from the top breeders in
England and Europe. They are all from
parent plants that are and have been line
bred for generations. They include hand-
crossed, self-pollinated, and
open-pollinated seed.

Hellebore argutifolius – This species from Corsica and Sardinia has great
foliage texture.
Leaves are gray-green in color with a sharply toothed edge. Flowers are
chartreuse in
color.

Hellebore atrorubens – This species from Slovenia and Croatia is smaller
in size than
most (12 to 15 inches). Flowers range from purple to purple and green. These
look great
in woodland settings.

Hellebore orientalis ssp. abchasicus – This species from Eastern Europe is
basically
evergreen, 15 to 18 inches tall. Flowers are creamy green and usually spotted
with five
red-purple spots or tinted with purple.

Hellebore niger “Maximus” – These are seedlings from this
cultivar. They have especially large, white flowers. Plants grow about 12 inches tall.

foliage. Flowers range from purple to greenish-purple and variation on this theme
